Today is the first day of summer vacation for my kids and we're so excited! Everything slows down. I go to the gym early for my fun Aqua Fitness classes and take my kids to the pool and the lake to relax and laze away the summer days! What's on your agenda this summer?

It's also a great time to write with not a lot of interruption like taking kids to and from school, after school activities, etc. I plan on finishing two books this summer and wrapping edits on two kid books!

Alisha: Please welcome the very talented Michelle Miles to my blog today! I'm thrilled to have her here today!



Michelle: Hello! Alisha was kind enough to ask me over to her blog today so I thought I’d take this opportunity to talk about why I decided to go into indie publishing.

When I first started writing many years ago, I wanted a NY pub. I wanted to be with TOR, specifically (still do). But I was so green. I had no idea what I was doing. And writing fantasy? PSHAW. I couldn’t figure out how to world build to save my life. But all that comes with experience. And the more I wrote the more experience I gained.

Fast forward to last year. I’d been tinkering with the idea of self-pubbing some things. Specifically books on which I had the rights back. Mostly that was a waiting game on the publisher. I’d gotten the rights back on one book but was still waiting for the other two. In the meantime, I wrote and submitted a little paranormal romance to my current editor. She rejected it. I revised it. She rejected it again.

So then it came to decision time. Do I continue to submit it? OR do I go out on a limb and publish it myself? I decided I’d give indie a chance. What could it hurt right? It felt the right time to do it for me. I’d seen my friends do it successfully. One of my other pals was giving me a push into the indie direction. Since I had this book rejected and I’d wanted to write and publish a trilogy of novellas, I decided to take the plunge.

The Guardians of Atlantis was born. I came up with a mad scientist who wanted to kidnap human females and mix human DNA with Atlantean DNA. And, naturally, our heroes can’t allow this experiment to happen.


Sabre (Tempting Eden – Available Now). Strong, sexy and serious. He’s no-nonsense. He is chosen as the one to lead the Guardians when his general is arrested for treason. When he refuses to help the lead geneticist and the president of Atlantis in this quest to kidnap women, the life of his sister is threatened. He has no choice but to cooperate. When he meets Eden and can hear her every erotic thought, it’s enough to touch her to ecstasies she’s never before experienced. But it quickly changes to something more and something deeper. When Sabre’s sister, Helene, is captured and held hostage by the scientists, Raven is sent to retrieve her. It should be a simple job—get in, get the girl, get out. But nothing goes as planned. Rescuing Helene turns into a battle of wills—she wants to go topside and she wants him to take her. And she’ll do whatever it takes to get her way—even seduce him.

I’m really excited about this series. It has a little of everything—action, adventure, romance, good guys, bad guys, strong women. It’s been a lot of fun to write.
I guess you could say I’m a “mixed bag” author. I do some myself as well as write for smaller presses. I still want the bigger houses, too. It’s something I haven’t given up on yet. Whichever way I go, though, I enjoy the process every step of the way. It’s a lot of work but I know in the end, it will all be worth it.

There was no way around it. I was going home to Brooklyn and back to the familiar Park Slope neighborhood where Jenn and I grew up. Jenn would be at Bennington, a long way from home. Sometimes the thought of being without my best buddy was enough to make me tear up. It had to happen someday, but that wasn't much comfort to me as the hours and days counted down to the end of the era--Jenn and Raina, BFF's.

#TracyLawrence Blew Me Away with his #Texas #Tornado! #Amreading #Kindle #Countrymusic

I recently released a contemporary western set in Texas that opens with a tornado. As I was pondering the title to that book, I remembered one of my favorite country songs from a few years ago. As soon as I remembered it, I knew I had to name my book MY LITTLE TEXAS TORNADO! What a perfect title for a book about a rancher who falls for a girl from Cali who he saves from a massive tornado her first day in town!

To top it off, I was lucky enough to see Mr. Tracy Lawrence when he last came to Texas on March 15, 2013 at The Silver Saloon!

I didn't even know he was playing until that afternoon when I saw a post on his Facebook page! I texted my amazing editor and friend at 8 pm after I cleared it all with my honey and had dinner and the kids taken care of for the evening. My editor said she could go so I picked her up around 10 and we sped off to the concert which was about half an hour's drive away. We were worried we'd miss part of it but we got there just in time, five minutes before he came on! We bought two cold beers and scrambled up to the stage and found an excellent spot in front! How lucky could we get?


What an amazing evening we had! Mr. Lawrence rocked the house, playing all his old hits and thrilling us with his new songs! I was lucky enough to shake his hand afterwards and then he came back on stage for an encore I'll never forget! I snagged the stage playlist at the end of the show and got an autographed Tracy Lawrence hat which I now wear everywhere..lol!

He favorited my Tweets! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Thanks for an amazing evening, Mr. Lawrence! You and your amazing band still got it going on!!!

So why did he want his own woman so badly?
He looked past Keara to the door of her shop and his brain forgot the question.
The exquisite woman he saw earlier in the square, the one whose gaze had locked on his, the one he had been thinking about just moments ago, stood frozen in place, eyes wide with fright or wonder. Mine, whispered through his head, as he tried to stop the impending erection from forming. No such luck.
The brown tunic, black pants and black cloak she wore made her pale skin glow, highlighting the white hair that streamed down her back. Piercing blue eyes, the same color as his, gazed back at him from an elfin face. Besides those blue eyes, the only color in her face was in her lips. Lush red lips, parted slightly, as if she didn’t know whether to scream or not. Lush red lips that would fit well around his staff as she suckled him.
He had known many women, lusted after more than that, and yet none of them made him feel the way this one did. What was different about her? Her coloring? That had to be it. All Watchers wanted a woman with pale skin, their ideal beauty, although none of them had gotten so lucky. None but him.
His woman. His for the taking.
Thoren’s words snapped Enar back to the present. No surprise his friend had just agreed to Keara’s request to take Jamie with them.
"Is that one part of your bride price, too?" Enar pointed to the pale-skinned woman.
Asking was the polite thing to do. Not that the answer mattered, the woman was his, but if she was included in this ridiculous bride price, it might make things easier on all involved.
He had it on good authority that claiming a woman had a tendency to frighten her.
"What?" Keara glared at Enar, who paid her no heed as he remained staring at his soon-to-be woman. "No, she’s my friend, Lily."
"I see." Goddess’s teeth. That made it harder.
And Thoren’s glare wasn’t helping any, either.
"What in the Goddess’s name do you think you’re doing?" Thoren threw his hand out, smacking Enar’s chest. "We’re on a mission, fool. You can’t lay claim to her."
"She’s mine. I claim her. You don’t have the right to tell me who I can and cannot claim. And she’s mine. Look at her. Exquisite."
Thoren’s eyes narrowed, one finger pointing at Enar’s chest. "What are you going to do with her? We still have to find the Halfling boy and we already have a female and a boy. This is becoming a traveling circus, not a reconnaissance mission. We. Do. Not. Need. Another female!"
"Forget you. She’s mine." Enar turned his attention to Lily, who still stood hand on the door, only now Keara stood beside her. "Woman of the exquisite coloring."
Both females jumped, what little color present in his woman’s face bleeding out. He strode across the yard until he stood in front of them. Grabbing Lily’s arm, he pulled the claiming necklace from a pouch hanging off his belt.
"Lily of the exquisite coloring, I claim you for my woman." With a quick flick of his wrist, the strand of beads fell around her neck, the ends snapping closed.
Magic streamed through the beads, holding the necklace in place until his death, which he had no plans of meeting anytime soon. The magic also kept the woman from running off like she often wanted to do after being claimed by a Watcher. Once he returned Lily to his village, she would remain there, since the magic in the necklace kept her from walking past the village gates. He didn’t know how far she could wander from him before then so he needed to keep her close.
Gathering her stiff and wide-eyed body into his arms, he gazed into her eyes and felt something shift inside him.

He couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across his face.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm a huge night owl! In fact, I have to struggle to get work done in the early morning hours. For whatever reason, my body wants to sleep but at night I come alive! Maybe because I was born at 11:45 pm. I don't know. One thing is for sure, it works really well for me because I can get my little ones to bed and stay up late writing and working into the wee hours, among other things.

It actually gives my honey and I more time to hang out, watch movies, cook a late dinner and be romantic. So when the weekend rolls around, we are total night owls! We've been known to leave our little ones with our teenager and drive to the lake and watch the swans swim. Everything changes at night. For me, those changes are beautiful and calm. Peaceful. When most of the world is sleeping, we go out and live. Night owls have to eat too. One of the favorite Night owl spots for late night dining is Waffle House!! Who doesn't love a buttery waffle drizzled with maple syrup? Go in the fall. They have a yummy pumpkin pie waffle that is to die for! We love to go eat in quaint Italian restaurants or hidden away Mexican cafes. We've been known to have a coffee in a cozy coffee shop while the rain slides down the windows.

Nighttime is in my blood. Of course, since I'm a night owl, I have a telescope and love to gaze at the moon and twinkling stars.

Early bird gets the worm? She can have it! I'll take my romantic, magical nights instead!
