An Interview with Missy Jane!

Please welcome Missy Jane to my blog today!

Ms. Missy Jane is the alter ego of a Texas mother of four who has been married to the same wonderful man for thirteen years. About five years ago Missy finished reading a book by Mercedes Lackey and thought "Now, what if..." and a monster was created. Missy now spends most of her time lost in worlds of her own making alternately loving and hating such creatures as vampires, shape-shifters and gargoyles (to name a few). When not writing, she spends her time reading, taking photos of her beautiful daughters and training her husband to believe she's always right.

Alisha: Can you tell us a little bit about your childhood?

Missy: I had a very good childhood, so long as I didn’t mind being picked on by my two older sisters. I was the baby and basically spoiled rotten by everyone in the family, now my hubby does it.

Alisha: Favorite memories?

Missy: Some of my favorite memories revolve around food. We would often eat at a seafood restaurant shaped like a boat that sat beside train tracks. Any time a train would pass it looked like the boat was moving. One of the servers was really good friends with my dad and he always peeled my boiled shrimp. I was an adult before I realized they didn’t automatically come that way when you ordered them.

Alisha: What a sweet memory. Tell us about the hero and heroine in your latest release.

Missy: They Call Me Death is the story of Alexia and Andor. She is a former housewife and mother who lost her family to animal shapeshifters. Andor is a Golden Eagle shapeshifter whose daughter is missing, presumably at the hands of humans. They have to learn to trust each other and work together to find his daughter and stop events that threaten the fragile peace between the species. I liked Alexia’s character from the first time she spoke in my head. She knows how to stand up for herself and evolve as a person despite the obstacles she encounters.

Alisha: Ooooh! I love shapeshifters! If you were granted three wishes by a genie, what would they be?

Missy: 1. For everyone to genuinely care about each other (the closest to world peace that might actually work), 2. Good health and happiness for my children and 3. To win the lottery (I have to be selfish on at least one of the three).

Alisha: If you could go anywhere to tomorrow, where would you go?

Missy: Hmm, Disneyworld. I haven’t taken my kids there yet.

Alisha: If you could see anyone tomorrow (dead or alive), who would it be?

Missy: Jim Morrison. He’s my favorite dead celebrity.

Alisha: Oh yes! And a very yummy man. That man invented sex appeal! And oh so dark and dreamy! If you could choose six people to spend one week on a desert island, who would it be and why?

Alisha: What word or phrase tingles in all the right places for you?

Missy: The word “suckle”. Ooh, that just sounds naughty, doesn’t it?

Alisha: Mmmm...VERY naughty..tee hee. If you had one day to spoil yourself, what would you do?

Missy: I’d start with a long luxurious bath, then have a full body massage (from a hunky guy of course), then eat somewhere sinfully decadent and most likely wind up in a bookstore. I’d end my day with another luxurious bath and fall asleep to soft jazz. This might sound kind of boring, but considering I have four kids any day to myself in calm silence is luxurious.

Alisha: I have three children so no, not boring at all. Wouldn't it be nice to even BE bored for a while?

EXCERPT 1
"Show me." He looked at me, doubt clear on his face as he
unsuccessfully tried to suppress a grin. "Show me, Andor. I won't
freak out this time."
He sighed and rubbed his face. I looked at how large his hands
appeared and wondered why I stood with a shifter I barely knew in my
space. The feel of my Glock still in my hand reassured me.
"Would it be too much to ask for you to place your gun…somewhere
else?"
I considered it, but not for long.
"Yes. I shower and sleep with my gun, Andor."
He grinned and nodded in understanding. He took a step away from
my sofa into a clearer area of the room, removed his coat and shirt
and dropped them to the floor. His wings instantly unfurled from his
body, spreading across the room. I looked him over, and everything
else about him remained human, or as human as usual. I took a step
toward him before I realized what I was doing. Placing my cup on the
counter, I stretched my hand toward the tip of his wing and Andor
froze. I touched the feathers tentatively at first, amazed at the
sheer size of each one. They were soft and beautiful. I had a deep
desire to see them in full sunlight, wondering if they would shine
like gold.
I heard Andor's breathing speed up, as if he were panting from
physical exertion. I still had my hand on his right wing when I
turned to look at his face. He was watching me with completely male
interest, and I became self-conscious.
"Can you feel this?" I asked, as I ran my fingers lightly over a
feather.
"Y-yes."

EXCERPT 2
I tried my best to delve into Andor's thoughts while he tried his
best to ignore mine. I was vividly remembering a bikini shopping trip
with some girlfriends on my eighteenth birthday when he finally
broke. I have to admit, I'm not sure why I'd taken to teasing him in
such a way. It was completely unlike me, especially with a shifter.
But I'd grown comfortable with Andor, and he no longer felt like an
enemy.
"Damn it, Alexia! Even the strongest man has a limit on his
control," he groaned, rising from the living room floor where we sat
facing each other.
I laughed and gave him a wink.
"Just seeing how much of a man you are, Andor. I knew you couldn't
stay an ice statue forever."
He walked into the kitchen, as I remained seated on the floor
cross-legged.
"An ice statue?" he asked in my head. Suddenly I felt fingertips
running down my bare arms from shoulder to elbow. I glared at him and
he smiled. "Does this feel like a frigid sculpture to you?"
I gasped as a warm touch traveled over my stomach and up my sides
past my ribs. The warmth continued to my back and up to my shoulders,
making me shiver. Andor chuckled at my reaction, the sound purely
masculine and sexy as hell. I jumped to my feet.
"Cut it out! You've made your point."

EXCERPT 3
Deep bass drum rolls woke me. For a moment, I just lay there, trying to remember whose bed I was in and why. It came to me slowly and I realized I was lying in Andor’s arms. I felt the movement of his breathing against my back, his warmth seeping through my shirt. The last thing I wanted was to get out of bed and away from his arms, but we had a schedule to keep. The Annual Conference of Human Scientists was beginning that day at Castor Laboratories and we had to sneak in.
As soon as I moved, I realized he was awake. His arm was still around my waist, his hand resting beneath my breast. I placed my hand in his and moved it up as I pressed back into him.
“Alexia,” he whispered, and it made me smile to hear desire in his voice.
“I know, we don’t have time,” I whispered back, not even trying to hide my disappointment.
“Soon. This will be over and I’ll spend hours worshipping you as you deserve,” he replied before suckling the back of my neck.
It sent a shiver up my spine and made me gasp. His hand squeezed my breast through my thin T-shirt and his leg settled between my thighs. I realized he was naked and moaned my approval.

EXCERPT 4
The first thing I saw was blood. There was a lot of it, and in the middle of it all stood Jack naked from the waist up. His chest and arms were covered in blood, as if he had dipped his body into it and tried to bathe. My stomach tried to rebel at the sight and smell and I froze in my tracks. Jack had a whip in his hands that had been black when he started, but now it was crimson and dripping.
“My God… You son of a bitch,” I whispered.
Jack heard me and looked up, his smile slipping away.
“What the hell are you doing here, Lex? It’s too early for your shift,” he said calmly.
“You know me, ever the overachiever.”
I looked at the heap at Jack’s feet, and that was all I could call it, a heap. It no longer resembled anything that ever lived, human or animal. The ropes were still on his hands, but he had long ago fallen from whatever Jack had him tied to. He wasn’t even moving any more.
“Jack, what have you done?” I asked, unable to keep the trembling from my voice.
“Done? Ha-ha, I did what you do best, Alexia. I killed it. I killed it and it screamed for me until its last breath. It sounded human at first, but near the end… Near the end it sounded like a cat.”
He started laughing. He laughed until tears streamed down his face, cleaning tracks through the blood, and all I could do was stand there staring at him. He was still laughing when Lance arrived with a half dozen other men. Jack let them take him into custody, all the while laughing.

Jane, it's okay to put me on the backburner...bad groupie! No cookie for you!
Haha, but right now I'm working on three different books all based in this same world. At least I don't have to go far for inspiration, right?
