Snow Skiing Anyone?

I woke up chilled to the bone today. A cold front had rolled in and the wind was howling. I cranked up my electric blanket and cuddled up to my baby boy. My honey was pulling on his long underwear, preparing to brave the cold. Bless his heart! He works outside all day, climbing on steel, erecting giant buildings so we can work and live in warmth.

I drifted back off to sleep and dreamed of a very cool ski trip I took five years ago when I worked as a secretary for a really cool bunch of architects. We flew to Steamboat, Colorado for five days of pure bliss, seventeen inches of snow, wine, cigars, steaks and the best skiing in the world. Sigh...I love winter and I miss my old friends.

Tell me about your favorite vacation in a comment and I'll enter you in a drawing to win a free download of your choice...Canyon Wolf Bride, The Wooden Nickel, A Love Beyond Time or Nocturnally Vexed. Go to Alisha Paige to decide which one you'd like to read.

Stay Warm!

Oh, I haven't been skiing for years! And probably shouldn't, since I have borderline osteoporois, but dang! That looked fun. My best, most recent vacation was an Alaska cruise. I got to see glaciers and some cool towns in Alaska with my sister. It was amazing!

Ahh, skiing... Let's not count the years since I've done some. It was in the Alps, too.
Yes, I do have some special vacation memories. Mediterranean beaches... No, no luxury hotels or cabana boys, but there was that one horseback ride at twilight along the waterline. In Italy. Full gallop in the spray... Ah, one never forgets somthing like that.

Ooooh, Pauline and SFwriter...those vacations sound lovely! Alaska and Italy...I'm daydreaming now...sigh!

Okay, let me freak you out. I'm a total geek. My favorite vacations revolve around visiting prehistoric sites. I loved Monk's Mound and Chaco Canyon. But, I'm truly geeky now, I have to admit I prefer scratching around in the dirt unearthing potsherds, mandibles, and structure walls. OH! And show me a museum with a reproduction 40K year old European cave sporting faux cave art of mammoths and enormous spotted deer... I get all crazed and take a million pictures like I'm in the real thing. Then there's the gift shop... GAWD! I MAKE MYSELF SICK JUST READING THIS POST. Maybe it's just the grit in your all your creases from when the sweat, sunscreen, and flying dust? I dunno. Or it's the leech!

I have never skiied in my life, but I love the idea of a cabin on a snow covered mountain....! SF writer's ride sounds wonderful too - I've galloped along a beach but not in the moonlight - and I would love to see a real live glacier like Pauline. I also admit to loving digging around ancient relics too - no I'm not talking about my hubby *grin*. One of my favourite memories is of a couple of years ago when we went to the Isle of Skhye in Scotland and saw the Cullin Hills covered in mist - magical.

I must admit, when it comes to skiing, I'm the type that will be sipping the hot buttered rum before the fireplace with a good book.

Skhye, I do enjoy sites like Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde, but I think the vacation my husband and I enjoyed the most was Williamsburg. We visited at Thanksgiving and they had all these reinactments going on, sleeping in the village, slaughtering a pig, etc. I loved stepping back into history.

I've gone skiing, but not for vacation. I don't know which vacation to mention. Maybe Beijing, China. It was a great deal & included everything. Walked the Great Wall, went to Forbidden City, Summer and Winter Palaces, saw the Opera, Acrobats, and so much more. The people were simply lovely. Would love to return. But I also want to return to London, Greece, yet to go to Paris...

We went to the mountains of north Georgia and stayed in a gorgeous log cabin, where we played pool, soaked in the hot tub and pretty much just relaxed. It was wonderful!

I'm with Linda on the Hot Buttered Rum and boy, do I EVER have a great recipe for you!!! A cabin in the mountains is my idea of heaven on earth. I've done the beach thing and other stuff, but there's something so wonderful about that cool, crisp air and being snuggled in front of a crackling fire. Back before I had kids, my husband and I shared a Christmas in Ruidose NM with my parents and my sister (this was before she married). It was the most wonderful Christmas. It snowed and in the village there were horse drawn carriages lit up with Christmas lights.

BTW, Alisha...I still remember you telling me about the cigars, the wine and the mountains. So glad I got to see some pics of that. You WILD WOMAN!!! snicker.

My favorite vacation was to Costa Rica for the annual Andalusian horse show and auction. I found my hand in the air and I'd bought a 3 year old stallion, half-brother to my show horse.

Beautiful imagery, Alisha.

My favorite vacation was when I went to Hawaii with my mother and little sister after my father died. My mom knew that neither one of us would ever be able to afford to go so she took us with the insurance money. She said she had everything she needed and she wanted to spend time with her girls. We relaxed on the beach. Went to Pearl Harbor. And talked a lot about my dad. It helped heal us a little and I'll never forget the closeness we had for that vacation. Hawaii is very relaxing. Your stress and troubles seem to melt away.
