Summer is Fading...

But not fast enough! Man! If I have to hear the weather man chuckle one more time when he mentions another record week of triple digits! Ugh!

Two more weeks until school starts! This is a big year for my two girls. My oldest daughter is starting high school and my youngest daughter is starting 1st grade. It will be quiet around the house with just me and my baby boy. But hey, that leaves more time for writing. Yippee! 20,000 more words and I will wrap up my current WIP. Mark, please send me your muse for a day or two! Please, mate?

What did all of you do over the summer? I'd love to hear your summer memories?

Were having those same record heats here too!! It reminds me of the times when I was younger, my whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. would pack up our cars and go to the beach. No expressways then, so it took a couple hours to get there. We would find a spot, unpack and stay the whole day, long into the night. Being Italian that meant we didn’t have the usual fair of hotdogs and hamburgers. No we had pasta, meatballs, and sausage. How do you BBQ that? Easy you have pots filled with water you put on the grill, get it boiling and throw in the pasta, and warmed up the homemade “gravy “(not sauce) that way too. What wasn’t already cooked in the “gravy” we put on the grill, chicken, sausage, ribs. Tons of coolers with antipasto salad, potato salad, etc. there were cheeses and salami, all kinds of fruits, and of course let’s not forget the wine. Not store bought, homemade. I would follow my uncle Romeo, (that’s right Romeo, I did mention the Italian part right??) everywhere. I tried to follow him into the men’s room once, but alas I was stopped. No learning how to swim you got thrown in and either drowned or didn’t. No one would have let us actually drown…well maybe after they stop laughing, but seriously they loved us. That was never a concern. Grandma would be in her house dress, a bathing suit was out of the question. She’s say in broken English…”Getta hella away froma me, I’ma no gonna wear thata thing, you somanabitch”, her English sucked, but she could swear like a pro. Those days are gone now, as are most of the people, but I will never forget those times or the people that made it special. Thanks for giving me the chance to share that, because for a little while I was back there with them.

What beautiful memories, Barb! Sigh.....those were the good ole days, right? And all that amazing food on the beach! Can you send me a recipe for the homemade gravy? I'd love to learn to make authentic Italian food. Uncle Romeo and Grandma both sound like hoots! Wish we could go back in time. And man, homemade wine! I'd be in heaven!

xxoo,
Alisha
