Excerpt from VAMPIRE AUTHOR, Steven Montano's BLOOD SKIES

BLACK SCARS
Blurb
Something ancient has awoken. Primordial and wholly evil, a living shadow emerges from a prison made weak by the magical cataclysm called The Black. Now the Sleeper stalks the land in search of its old enemies, leaving a trail of madness and destruction in its wake.
Eric Cross, a Southern Claw warlock, has been sent to find the Woman in the Ice, the only known means to stopping this evil. Aided by a grizzled ranger and a band of wardens and inmates from a sadistic prison, Cross’ mission will bring him into conflict with an array of foes: the barbaric Gorgoloth, vampire shock troops out of the Ebon Cities, and a cadre of mercenary nihilists called the Black Circle.
On a mission that will take him from a lost temple once ruled by insidious wolf sorcerers to the vicious gladiator games of the vampire city-state of Krul to the deadly ruins of an ice city, Cross will play a pivotal role in an ancient conflict whose outcome will determine the future of the world.
Return to the world of Blood Skies in this exciting military fantasy adventure!

Excerpt from Chapter 2: Dreadnaught
They rode quietly across the ghostly ice plains. They stepped carefully to avoid sharp stones, patches of ice, and areas too brittle to support their weight.
Hours passed in near silence. Cross would have liked to sleep in the saddle, but it wasn’t going to happen. His nerves were alight, thanks in no small part to the nagging paranoia of his spirit. But that wasn’t entirely it: Cross disliked the notion of being directed by a prophecy. The fact that Sajai seemed to have known there was going to be something there in the Reach that Cross needed to follow unnerved him. It was like a trap had been laid by the universe, and he was walking straight into it.
The plains sloped down near a cluster of bone white trees rimed with dark frost. The skeletal remains of a tall humanoid creature sat near the trees; one of its hands was frozen so that it looked like it pointed back the way Cross and Dillon had ridden from.
Cross tried not to take it as a sign.
At the bottom of the slope was a thin canyon that was maybe twenty feet across. The only apparent means to cross to the other side was to use a thin log that traversed the distance like a crude bridge. Frozen pools of blood waited at the bottom of the slope, next to the log.
A cluster of thick trees and rocks waited at the far end of the gap, and beyond the tress waited the unseen source of the streaming smoke.
“You smell that?” Cross asked. He smelled fire and fuel. “It’s an airship.” They couldn’t see any wreckage from where they were, but the smell made him certain.
“Could it be one of ours?” Dillon asked.
“I can’t think of a reason why a Southern Claw airship would be this far north,” Cross said. The Ebon Cities’ vessels used hexed organic fuel that smelled entirely different than that used by Southern Claw airships, so it was unlikely that the vessel was of vampiric origins. Cross deduced that it was probably a stolen or reconstructed vessel, like those used by smugglers and raiders.
Cross’ spirit moved ahead on her own. Thin lines of spectral essence connected them, which gave Cross an awareness of the area ahead. He felt the heat of fires and he smelled burning skin. He heard voices, and saw auras of pain. Lost and dead spirits roamed the air like predators in blood waters, but Cross’ spirit had become expert at protecting herself, and she eluded those wailing souls before they could do her harm.
Cross felt multiple living presences ahead, moving on the other side of the trees and stones. There were voids there, as well, unspaces where beings should have stood, but didn’t.
“We’ve got vampires ahead,” Cross said, and he and Dillon dismounted.
They readied their weapons.
“How many?” Dillon asked.
“I’m not sure. Two, maybe three.”
“That could be rough for just the two of us.”
His spirit bristled at that. She didn’t like Dillon not counting her as part of the group. She’d developed quite the temper.
I need to be careful of that. If she flares out of control and catches me off guard, we’ll all be in trouble.
“There’s more,” Cross said. He had his HK45 in one hand; he molded his spirit in the other, his gauntleted hand. He didn’t latch onto her form too tightly, but held her ethereal tendrils like a rein, firm enough to let her know she’d be needed back soon. She extended her form to the other side of the open canyon, but at his command she moved, smoke-like, back to him, and she surrounded his body and filled his lungs with a burning sensation. Warmth filled him, vaguely erotic and invigorating, but at the same time painful and poisonous. She was like some dread hashish.
“There are a half-dozen other life forms over there, too. Maybe more…it’s hard to say.”
Dillon chewed on that for a moment. His dark beard was cut close to his angular face, which always looked grim.
“Human?” he asked.
“Can’t say.”
“Damn.” Dillon spat. “Is there anything you are sure about?”
“I’m sure I don’t want to go over there,” Cross nodded.

Interview with Vampire Author Steven Montano's character: Warrior Mike Kane from BLOOD SKIES

In the time after The Black, human survivors of the Southern Claw Alliance clash with vampire legions of the Ebon Cities in a constant war for survival. Earth as we know it has been forever damaged by an arcane storm that fused our world with distant realms of madness and terror. Now, things that once existed only in our nightmares stalk the earth. And they are hungry…
BLACK SCARS, Book 2 in the BLOOD SKIES series, is an apocalyptic military fantasy in which a Southern Claw warlock named Eric Cross has been dispatched to uncover the truth about a dangerous entity that threatens the human lands. One of Cross’ “allies” on this mission is the subject of today’s interview, a blonde warrior of dubious reputation named Mike Kane…

Steven: Hi, Mike!
Kane: Uh….hi. This is weird.
Steven: I know. Just roll with it. So, you’re one of the new characters in BLACK SCARS, right?
Kane: I am?
Steven: Trust me.
Kane: You’re the author.
Steven: Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living?
Kane: I’m a prisoner.
Steven: And how’s that working out for you?
Kane: It sucks. Especially if you’re a prisoner in Black Scar. It’s run by a bunch of mercenary ass-hats called the Revengers. They’ll lock anybody up if they’re paid enough, and they’ll let anyone go for the same reason. They pretty much suck. They treat the prisoners like dogfood.
Steven: You mean “like dogs”?
Kane: I meant what I said.
Steven: So what are you doing in Black Scar?
Kane: Oh, just partying.
Steven:…
Kane: What?
Steven: I mean how did you get there?
Kane: Ah. Well…that’s a long story.
Steven: It’s an interview, dude.
Kane: Ok. Well, my parents died during The Black. I was only a baby, and some lady found me and raised me for a while before she sold me to slave traders. I worked in the mines, but later I earned my freedom, and kind of meandered around doing odd jobs. After a while, I wound up being kidnapped by a criminal gang. That was…awesome.
Steven: And that’s where you met Ekko?
Kane: Hell yeah! She’s mine, keep your hands off.
Steven: Thanks, I’m taken. Tell us about her.
Kane: Ekko was the only member of the gang with any brains. She pretty much ran the show all by herself, but that wasn’t enough to keep the other idiots who worked for her from getting them all in trouble.
Steven: Yeah, I understand that whole situation didn’t work out too well.
Kane: Nope. We were captured by vampires and sent to the city of Krul. That suuuuuuuuucked.
Steven: Elaborate.
Kane: Suuuuuuuuucked a lot.
Steven: …
Kane: Ok, look…imagine being stuck in a tiny cell, pumped full of drugs, given weapons and then made to go fight in gladiator games for the amusement of a bunch of pasty-faced vampires. Sounds awesome, right? It isn’t.
Steven: Both you and Ekko did this?
Kane: Yep. She’s as tough as steel and a lot more beautiful.
Steven: But you guys managed to escape…
Kane: Yup.
Steven: Can you tell us how you managed that?
Kane: I’d rather not.
Steven: Ok, fine. But you didn’t stay free for very long, did you?
Kane: Rub it in, why don’t you?
Steven: Sorry.
Kane: Whatever. Yeah, after we escaped from Krul, we were free for all of a month before we were rounded by the Revengers. That’s how we wound up in Black Scar.
Steven: But as BLACK SCARS opens…
Kane: Huh?
Steven: Uh…never mind…right now, you’re not at Black Scar, are you?
Kane: No. I’m in a prison ship called the DREADNAUGHT, flying off to hell knows where. Wait a second…how are you even talking to me? Are you on the prison ship?
Steven: That concludes today’s interview with Mike Kane. Mike…
Kane: Wait a second, who are you? Am I on drugs again???!!!
Steven: …and his criminal girlfriend, Ekko, can be found fighting against the vampires in BLACK SCARS, the sequel to BLOOD SKIES. BLACK SCARS is a dark military fantasy on sale October 8th!
Kane: Wait!!!! What the hell just happened???!!!

The Reckoning ~ Kimberly Van Meter ~ GREAT INDIE FIND!

The Excerpt

Isabella stepped from the shower, her thoughts moving in a linear line straight to the tasks set ahead for the day. She wrapped a thick towel around her body before reaching for her cell phone on the bathroom counter to send a quick text to Mary-Ellen. God help her if Mary-Ellen forgot to input the blood quantum results as she’d asked her to do first thing this morning. It seemed since the vampire had been acquired, Mary-Ellen had gone from competent research assistant to hormonal teenager. Although she’d miss Mary-Ellen’s signature wry humor, Isabella thought with a sense of resignation, that it might be a good idea to find a less hands-on job for Mary-Ellen. She didn’t trust Mary-Ellen around the vampire and any slip up in protocol could wreak terrible consequences. She hit send — her thoughts already traveling to the next task on her mental to-do list — and swallowed a horrified shriek when Julien de Valsan stood framed in her doorway.Impossible…how? Her throat worked convulsively on a scream that wouldn’t budge. The slow, terrible smile on his finely aristocratic mouth caused her to take a faltering step back until she touched the shower door. No escape, her mind cried though she kept her lips seamed shut until she quieted the fear under a blanket of iron will. “How did you get out?” she asked, mentally going through the exhaustive fail-safes that somehow, he’d managed to circumvent.
A muffled twittering sounded from his pant pocket and he fished out a cell phone with a wicked curve of his lips. She gasped when she recognized Mary-Ellen’s cell phone. “I’ve always found the modern age with its gadgets and technology to be tedious and tiresome with all their beeps and bells but I must confess, your assistant’s device was most helpful in finding you. I might have to get one of my own. Or I could just keep this one. Mary-Ellen won’t be needing it any longer.” He crushed the phone in his palm and dropped the fragments to her floor as he advanced. “Enough with the pleasantries. There will be a reckoning between you and I, and I do not wish to delay my gratification a moment longer.”
Her eyes watered. “What did you do to Mary-Ellen?” she asked, knowing her own death stared at her through the eyes of the man stalking her, yet she had to know what had befallen her assistant. The memory of her parents’ death bloomed in her mind and her knees threatened to buckle. “What did you do to her?” she cried, hating him, hating his race of monsters.
In an instant he was on her, ripping the damp towel from her body and yanking her against him, her frantic struggles as she beat his chest and kicked with her bare feet did little to loosen his grip. If anything, her attempts at violence seemed to spark a hunger that had less to do with sustenance and more to do with sex and dominance. His face so close to hers, she could feel his breath on her cheek, could see the irregular black spirals in his pale blue iris that gave away his alien nature. Yet, as horrific as it was, there was a hypnotic beauty that sucked at her, seduced her with its difference. Noooo, she wouldn’t succumb to die at his leisure. She ceased her useless flailing to conserve her strength and lifted her chin to stare into those deep, fathomless eyes, daring him to kill her now or forfeit his chance. “Likely a platoon of heavily armed Marines are canvassing this house this very minute,” she said with a calm that was only surface deep. Inside something quivered and shook, but not entirely from fear. She pushed aside the obscenity, not willing to examine it more closely. “If you wish to live, you will leave me and go. You have only a few minutes before the sun rises. We’ve watched you long enough to know that you cannot withstand the sun.”
He ignored her statement for the moment and chose instead to inhale deeply at the junction where her shoulders met her neck. She couldn’t quite quell the shiver that followed. “I could kill you and be gone within seconds,” he murmured, his lips touching her bare skin with the softest touch until something sharp grazed and she realized with a shudder he’d raked her flesh with his canines. “The question is…do I slake my hunger now with little preamble or finesse, or do I take you with me to savor for many nights to come?”
Take her with him? She stiffened in horror. “I would never be your plaything. I would kill myself first,” she hissed, wishing for something sharp and deadly to plunge through his black heart. “I swear I’d die before letting you touch me in anyway.”
He chuckled as if her spitting fury amused him but when he drew away, she saw nothing of mirth or merriment in his strange eyes. In fact, she saw deadly promise. “Oh my pet, you will die. Be assured of that. But when you gasp your last breath, it will be I who hastens your end and none else.” Isabella gasped as his grip tightened, hating his touch and the traitorous flutters in the pit of her belly as he snarled softly, revealing the tips of his sharp canines, “I’ve made my decision. You come.”
She opened her mouth to scream but within seconds all was black and she knew of nothing else.

The background:

I've been fascinated by vampires since I can remember, though oddly, my first book was a straight contemporary. Realizing my career trajectory was headed in the contemporary romance genre, I shelved my secret love for men with fangs and focused on writing amazing men without a penchant for blood. Don't get me wrong, I love writing contemporary romance but deep inside pulsed the raw idea for a vampire story that finally wouldn't stay silent. I built the story of Julian de Valsan and Isabella Beckett and submitted to Silhouette Nocturne. Alas, it was rejected. I won't lie, I pouted for a bit but then shelved it once again and moved on. Except...I couldn't let it go. Then, a friend of mine told me how much fun she was having writing cozy mysteries and self-pubbing on the Kindle. Immediately, I thought of my beloved vampire story that was currently homeless and receiving no love from its cyber shelf and thought, "I'm gonna go Indie with this bad boy!" And, so with a fair amount of trepidation but whole lot of chutzpah, I went for it. And, to be honest, I've been thrilled with the reception this little novella has received. So many readers have asked me when the next installment is coming and it thrills me to my toes that it's been so well-received. Unfortunately, I'm bound to sticking with novellas due to my agent clause but I'm very excited to start the next story, which will be about Savannah, the abducted sister. The problem? Keeping to the short format! The story keeps expanding and I have to rein it in! Anyway, going Indie has been a blessing and a journey that I never could've foreseen. Everything is still new and I'm stumbling around trying to gain my footing but one thing is for sure, I'm thankful for this opportunity that Indie publishing has given me. Without it, THE RECKONING would likely remain shelved, gathering cyber dust and creating dust bunnies...with fangs.

Guest Blogger: Sky Purington and an Interview with Alexandria and Salvator from Heart of Vesuvius!

Hi Everyone! I’m totally thrilled to be visiting Alisha’s blog. For those of you unfamiliar with my work I write a cross genre of fantasy/paranormal with a twist of history and a splash of time-travel. Sound like the perfect cocktail? Good!

This visit I’m going to get down to the nitty-gritty. Dive into the depths of my latest release in a most unconventional way. What do I mean? Well, I’m going to have the hero and heroine from my latest vampire tale interview one another. Yep, it’s been done at this blog before BUT has it been done by two vamps over eight hundred years old? Not only that…has it been done by a female vampire with a chip on her undead shoulders? But all that’s blood under the fangs. Love survives!

Before we hand the blog over to a couple of vampires with very strong personalities, here’s a basic run-down of their story, HEART OF VESUVIUS.

(One lucky commenter gets a download of their choice from my backlist. That includes Heart of Vesuvius.)

Two vampires…one goal.

Alexandria has no choice. She must flee to the last place she wants to. Straight into the arms of a vampire she was determined to forget. Salvator, ancient vampire, finds this a clever fix to obtaining the one vampire he’s always desired…Alexandria.

Together, they must find a way to evade her powerful enemy, Salvator’s brother Luciano. On the run, they struggle to understand one another. Deep, dark secrets are revealed. Denied passion ignites. Blood is spilled.

Within the heart of Vesuvius, anything is possible. All can be conquered. But will it be? Can wrongs be made right? History is the locked door. Forgiveness is the key. Time will tell if ancient love can once again flourish.

So there you have it, a general idea. What do you say we get back to the fun stuff? Of course, that means it’s time for Alexandria (Alex) and Salvator to interview one another. I hope you don’t mind but I’ve called Gabriel (Alex’s brother and the hero from Darkest Memory- Prequel to Heart of Vesuvius) in to act as an intermediary between the two because, well…these vampires are rather like a volcano when they get too close! And you never know which way they’ll erupt. My guidelines? Three questions only aimed at the other. No more. Trust me, if I let them they’d ramble on or worse. So, floor’s yours first Alex. Gabriel stand strong my man. Salvator, just be nice, k?

ALEX: (Long dark hair pulled back, wisps hang loose. Painter’s smock speckled with her latest color pallet. Crisp English accent takes on a soft sexy Norman tongue when dealing with all things Salvator) Thanks, Sky. Glad to be here. But truth told you were a bit dramatic when introducing us. Salvator and I have made it through the toughest of our tale. Now it’s all pure romance. Gabriel, glad to have you here brother, but unnecessary. Best we get to the interview. So, Salvator, my love, what were your first thoughts when you knew I was coming back into your life?

SALVATOR: (Tall, too dark and handsome for his own good, dressed in black, haute couture head to toe, lounges casually nearby) ora che il mio amore

Alex frowns. Gabriel says, “English, Salvator.”

SALVATOR: So sorry, Alexandria. I said, “It was about time, My Love.”

ALEX: (Nod of approval) What plans do you have for the future?

SALVATOR: To please you for many centuries to come, preferably in the bedroom.
Alex shoots a pointed look Salvator’s way and shakes her head. Gabriel says, “You need to let the readers know more, Salvator.”

SALVATOR: Thought I did. You need details? Her long, sexy as hell legs being tossed up over my shoulders. That wet, hot−“

ALEX: Stop! Moving on. Salvator, we’re looking at an eternity together. How do you intend to make that work? You’re not exactly−“

SALVATOR: I’m exactly everything you need and it will work. You are my existence be it past, present or future. You are my love, Alexandria. Do you doubt that for a second?

Passion ignites mid-interview. The room blurs and two vampires are instantly in one another’s arms. Gabriel clears his throat. “We owe Alisha’s blog a full interview. Can you handle it or should we leave?”

SALVATOR: (Licks the side of Alex’s throat, eager to bite) We’re vampires. We are in true form. (Nibbles her neck) but we will finish the interview. Alexandria, m’dear, why were you such a prickly wench?

ALEXANDRIA: (Small smile, head thrown back) Because I could be.

SALVATOR: Devilish woman (Incisors out. Sniffs her skin with a secret grin.) Tell me, was that the real reason you fled my brother? I think it was because you had to be with me. Had to have me.

ALEXANDRIA: (Head snaps up. Eyes narrow.) You know damn well that wasn’t why.

SALVATOR: Are you quite sure because I felt the way you used your mouth on my−.
(Slap. Alex’s hand across Salvator’s face.) She pulls away. He growls.
Gabriel shakes his head and shrugs. “You see. They can’t handle a civilized interview.”

SALVATOR: (Tries to pacify…kind of) What the hell’s the matter with you, sweetness?

ALEXANDRIA: You know that wasn’t why I fled to you. I had no choice. As to how I use my mouth, that’s between us!

Gabriel winks and leaves. Sky here. Did I not warn you? Oh, no worries, Alex and Salvator already vanished down the garden path leading toward their special place. They’ve been through an awful lot and while passion rules them…man are they stubborn! There are still some kinks to work out. I wrote their tale. I brought them together because truly, they’re meant for one another in not only this life but….wait, almost gave away too much. I suppose all we need to know right now is that they really are in love despite that interview. Dang vamps.

HEART OF VESUVIUS takes you down their path. PLUS you had the added bonus of meeting Gabriel.

What they’re saying about HEART OF VESUVIUS…

"...this haunting story about loves lost and found is certainly worth the read. The ominous climax of the story, where we learn the origin of the feud between the two brothers and the truth that lies at the heart of Salvator's relationship with Alexandria, was beautifully, heartbreakingly written."

~The Romance Reviews

“The vampire on vampire sex is hot and wild ...a great read for all you romantics and vampire lovers!"

Skhye Moncrief's Psychic Werewolves Rock!

Sexual espionage never got any deadlier! Book 2: FERAL FLAW

Psychic werewolves are saving the universe. And they're recruiting...

Read chapter 1 Skhye Moncrief Books to learn how to avoid being inducted into the war!

Of course, you might be gungho about joining the Blood Wars...
Do you have what it takes to become an elite were-assassin? Run through this checklist to determine if you've got the right stuff to keep Earth safe from the evil emperor's reign of mind control:

1. Are you into that legendary conflict between werewolves and vampires?
2. Do you think--deep down inside in an intuitive, rather instinctual way--that something is going to happen on Winter Solstice 2012? (You aren't alone. Many cultures around the world think something's going down... And the universe's free thinkers are determined to see it doesn't happen.)
3. Can you read minds, levitate objects, remote view, heal with your touch, sense truth with your gut, etc.?
4. Have you been told you are ADHD or a labeled a Violet Child?
5. Have you experienced lost time or alien-abduction nightmares?
6. Are you drawn to blood as if the substance somehow inherently exuded power?
7. Are you into Gothic anything?

If you answer yes to any of these points, read up on the Blood Wars.

Blurb:

As the Blood Wars between psychic werewolves and vampires continue, Commander Goro’s deepest desire, his love, his promised mate, is taken from him in the worst possible manner. He learns she’s given birth to his arch enemy’s child, a deadly rumor for both his honor and her life. If he discovers she’s a sex spy, he’ll have to kill her. Now they must mate to disprove the rumor of sexual espionage. Although he’d postponed that moment of divine completion bonding their bodies through mystic sex and blood exchange to safeguard her from the treacherous game of manipulation—a game he and his intended play with everyone aboard his starship, he has no choice but to mate. Just one problem stands in his way…

Psychokinetic earthling Crazy Darla, manipulator extraordinaire unequaled by none other than Goro, realizes the only way to survive the rumored lie is to run for her life. But there was always something more in her motives than fantasies of delicious sex with the man she’s craved for years. Even though those motives felt carnal. Something else, pure and, perhaps, metaphysical haunted her. Perhaps in his goddess, Destiny? She had to believe in those feelings of love. But to trust is to show weakness in handing over one’s fate to another who just might ritually disembowel you.

Who is playing whom in the battle of masterminds? Sexual espionage never got any deadlier. With the secret baby, bounty hunters, an entrancing crystal, and a space opera between werewolves and vampires forcing Goro and Darla into dark secluded corners, pushing them into carnal sexual interludes and dangerous blood exchanges fueled by the frenzied blood lust of were-mates, the future holds both promises and lies in the psychic war. And one wrong move means you’ve succumbed to the deadliest thing in the universe, your FERAL FLAW.

Excerpt: (heroine detained as slave on slaver ship)

Another blast thundered.

Shrapnel shot across the room.

Bits flew between the bars of my cell like a dust cloud mushrooming to choke oxygen from the space. The billowing debris spat out a dark male humanoid with long flowing black hair.

In the way he clubbed the Crellons, nobody needed to guess whether he was a Crellon himself. Unless he was a jilted lover. Now, that was a possibility. Who else would enter this sexually-transmitted-disease-coated tub without disinfectant? This disgusting spacecraft had to be tagged with some sort of marking that warned normal extraterrestrials to stay away or risk infection.

All the Crellons stopped moving where they were sprawled out on the floor.

Were they dead? Three cheers for the humanoid tank.

The warrior with the long hair disarmed the Crellon bodies, taking objects similar to the one that I held, then hunted around the control panel beyond the whirling smoke tendrils.

My creaking cell door popped open.

Does he know I’m here or my identity? Was he releasing me or capturing me to exchange for the bounty? In the end, nothing could be worse than being captive by Crellons.

The man turned to me and walked lazily through the lingering haze he’d created.

Step by casual step. All muscles.

Something about him looked familiar. Maybe it was the way he walked. Or his mercenary-style black leather?

“You’re free, Darla.”

That deep patient almost threatening whisper of a voice sent chills down my spine. Like I thought I’d ever hear Goro speak again.

My heart hammered as I stared at the strangely improved Goro. He was unbelievably gorgeous. Wild. And he’d blown his way aboard to save me. Or to recapture me to return me to The Cause for trial as a traitor. He’d beaten the Crellons unconscious in the process. What do I do? Run? Or kiss him for saving me? How am I going to keep from throwing my arms around him?

He strode to the cell’s entrance and halted.

And stared. He was so different now. So uninhibited with his long hair. Without his standard black jacket-like cape, in his leather vest and pants he was equally formidable. Rugged.

My knees wobbled.

Take care, Darla. He’s trouble. There’s a good half of the universe out there questioning your allegiance. But this beastly barbarian was much more than the neatly-suited commander. What else had changed? “Goro?”
He nodded.

Just once was all he chose to gift me. Enough to see those orange eyes from a different angle. The same smoldering eyes sparking with fire. Just whose cause had he come to rescue me for? Who could turn away from the sheen on his sweaty muscles and the fireworks in his eyes? What a barbarian on steroids.

He could drag me anywhere by the hair.

Why did take me now block every thought in my mind? Crazy Darla, think of something to save my ass. “So much time had passed. I figured I had been left to the Crellons. Especially after the rumor started.”

“Come out, Darla. We must leave now.”

What a temptation magnet. But this ship was so n-a-s-t-y. Entering the realm of STDs was far more risky than patiently awaiting death by starvation isolated in a lovely somewhat-sterile cell. And who knew how deadly extraterrestrial STDs were.

His black eyebrows flat lined. “We won’t be staying. I want to lock these fools up before we depart though. So, please clear the containment cell.”

He sounded so normal. But his unruly look would do me in. What else can I do? I’ve got to play along and wait for another window of opportunity. Be smart. Stay on my toes. I strode through the bars, careful not to touch anything, and stepped through a layer of crunching ship pieces covering the floor until I stood beside the hole where the door he blasted away once opened and closed.

The sound of dragging bodies whispered how Goro stashed the Crellon lovers in their very own precious honeymoon cabin.

Oh to bolt to my pod fighter and get the heck out of this crab-infested-venereal-disease nightmare. Wherever the spacecraft was. After waking up from the sleeping gas incident behind bars, leaving the containment area never proved wise. I have no idea where my pod fighter was.

Goro did. He knew all about this universe. The man was my ticket back home. But what did he want? And why the change in hairstyles all of a sudden? Did he hit some crazy phase of life where men from his world sprout long locks?

Oh to run my fingers through the symbol of his new phase of life. I almost turned to read clues in his facial expression. But then I’d have to struggle with my renewed attraction to him. Not good since I just needed to climb up through the deepest rungs of Hell to find my way back to Earth. Or some kind of normalcy.

And nothing about Goro looked normal. He needed to just grab me by the ponytail. Drag me off. Take advantage of me. Goro now had the raw appearance of a man with no inhibitions. Thank the stars he grew up. And who didn’t want a big tough guy ready to defend or pounce her? That’s if he intended to pounce. I’ve got to play this game right. Whether Goro believes it or not, I still have my virginity bartering chip. And this hunk of a genius knew how to use a pod fighter.

Brains, brawn, and sex appeal.

What a hero.

Look out, universe. I get a chance at him first. Okay, maybe a second chance. And he probably knows where my pod fighter is.

A clank noted the cell door’s lock was engaged.

Goro’s form halted beside me, in the doorframe.

Correction, inside the blast-hole’s edge of raw sharp metal. If Goro wasn’t careful, he’d scratch up all those bulging arm muscles. Talk about a tragedy when all a girl wanted to do was rub her palms over all of that hot supple iron. Mold it into a new groaning moaning twisted mass of uncontrolled cooperative male.

Oh the power of a few dirty movies. I was such an impressionable teen.

“Let’s take the pod fighters, Darla. Command yours to match my moves. I don’t want to lose you again.”

Yeah. Yeah. Don’t lose the emperor’s dream babe. He still talked like a commander. Hopefully Conan wanted me as much as Voldon did. I followed Goro’s shadow in the low level lighting.

“How long has it been?” I asked.

He headed through a narrow empty passageway toward a hatch. “Three earth months.”

An entire season? Geesh, talk about imprisonment. And now I’ve been saved by Conan. Or was I? Pay attention self. He didn’t react thrilled to see me at all.

Just what does he want with me?

Goro led me into a docking bay where our pod fighters waited.

He had said next to nothing. “Where are we going?”

He shot me a curious glance.

“Why are you rescuing me?”

“You are my responsibility.” He just waited, staring at me, the formidable killing machine.

That stern jaw line. Those scrutinizing eyes. His wild hair. He just stood there.

My knees quaked as my core melted.

If this ain’t one-hundred percent possession, what is? Responsibility rang a good solid motive to cough up though. But just what did responsibility refer to? Am I his responsibility to return to The Cause because I’ve been labeled a traitor?

Buying into the packaging of a man that made me run into danger while my knees liquefied was nuts. But he was so off-the-scale gorgeous now. If he’d just insist on having sex. If he’d just take what he had claimed to desire all those years. If only he’d give me that one chance to exchange blood and attach my soul to his for eternity.

Lord, I’m losing my mind. Now apparently wasn’t the time for ifs or opening up a direct line to God to confess my flaws. I blinked, pushed the secret button on my pod fighter to open the hatch, and climbed into the welcoming isolation of my pod’s cockpit.

Adult excerpt FERAL FLAW (futuristic romance)
It glows???
Excerpt:

At last, his body responded to mine so intimately that he couldn’t decline my proposal. I had to keep him focused. Keep him distracted before he thought up another reason to postpone the consummation of our marital bond. Or I was destined for termination. A virgin. How tragic.

Having a real man was moments away. Had to be. Here gasped grasped one in the throes of commitment without a fear in the world. A breast man. I leaned into his solid accommodating body, raked my stiff nipples from his ribs to the rounded points on his chest, and circled his nibs with my own.

Chills jolted through my core.

Gods this is better than porn flicks. At last I understood what all the taunts about feeling wet meant.

He grabbed my hair, yanking my head so far back I feared my neck would pop.

Is this where Goro takes out Voldon’s alleged spy? I rolled my eyes to the farthest limit. To where he knelt.

He reached for one of my nipples and tugged at it, mesmerized, rolling the tender flesh between his thumb and index finger. His hot moist mouth bent down like he took one last drag on a cigarette and savored the moment before tossing the butt in the trash to quit cold turkey.

Throw me down. I’m all yours, Conan.

Tingly hot breath blew across my nipple.

I need him inside me. Now. “Goro!”

His orange gaze slowly slid from my breast, up my neck, stalled at my lips, then ventured on to meet my eyes. An eerie glow burned in those orbs as if he were no longer there. As if something more basal and carnal arose from the depths within him to take over for mating.

Just take me.

Who cared if this was normal in were-mating? Things were going to be different going into this long-term relationship with blood exchanges. No divorce allowed. But nobody warned me he might become a beast beforehand. Who cared? He was ten times sexier. So sexy I couldn’t think of anything but those shots in the smut movies where they got close-ups of the thick cock pounding between a woman’s thighs. Wouldn’t he hurry to prove everything I imagined was so much more in real life? He just needed a little incentive. I reached down to fondle myself like all the women in those sex shows.

“I’ll do that.” His grip on my hair let go, and he lifted me into his arms only to slowly lower me onto the cold ground. Then his tickling fingertips investigated my groin.

Oh to breathe as his fingers claimed every inch of my sensitive nether folds and clit only to move lower and slide inside me. To tease me.

I thrashed against the planet’s cold rock.

“You’re so wet,” he growled.

His eyes seemed so distant. So different as if the demon contemplated something. Or was lost. I’ll help him. I raised a hand to his cheek to pull down his lips again. To guide him to me.

And the way the iron cording throbbed in his neck promised of the blood binding. I ran a fingertip along the confessing artery.

His heart thumped a demand for consummation.

Not a problem given he thrust his fingers inside my aching body.

Wouldn’t he take me completely? I couldn’t lie still, squirming against those teasing fingers.

And then there was where the sweat beaded among the hairs on his chest. I rubbed the moisture into his drumming heart. Down. Down into the shadows. Over his ribbed abdomen. Down to where someone needed to guide his hard shaft into where it could throb inside me. I pulled his cock into the waning sunlight.

The tip glowed just as orange as the sunset.

Uh. Why is his penis glowing? I slid my gaze to meet my lover’s orange eyes.

His fingers stilled inside me. “It’s anatomically correct for an Xquine male. If you’re afraid, we can stop.”

Book 1: FERAL FASCINATIONS reviews...

"FERAL FASCINATIONS ...a surprise and an exciting read. It's not an easy novel to summarize but take my word for it…a summary can't do it justice any way. You have to read—and enjoy it—for yourself!... There's a lot of sex in this one but it's neither intrusive nor too graphic and every thrust of it moves the plot. Both Kindrist and Straightarrow, as well as the other characters—even the Bible-quote spouting Darla—are drawn with sympathy and realism. Pithy dialogue—a lot of it going on inside Jake's head, give the novel just enough of a quirky nature to keep it from the run-of-the-mill storyline of alien-abductee-saves-Mankind-and-gets-girl. 5 Stars!" ~Tony-Paul; http://www.tony-paul.com/

"This isn’t one of your brother’s Sci-Fi Books – it’s Rebel Mercenary meets Paranormal Alien Chick. ...Complex and well written, Ms. Moncrief seamlessly blended earth religion, new-age mysticism, paranormal events, shapeshifing rogue spies, and a who-done-it twist. The love scenes were not overly explicit, but very romantic & emotionally heart felt." ~LynnMarie, HEA Reviews

"Feral Fascinations is one of those werewolf science fiction novels that captures the imagination. Skhye Moncrief has done an amazing job of bringing a new world out and showing it to the reader with such amazing clarity. ...An original novel many will enjoy as it combines both modern and futuristic elements twinned with horror... True horror and science fiction fans will take to this novel really well as the characters are fascinating and well worth reading about. The sex scenes are not descriptive, but leave plenty to the imagination so the reader can make of the scenes what they will." ~Sandra, Romance at the Heart Magazine

An Interview with Vex Savaker...Oooh La La!

Hey all you Wicked Blog Hoppers! I'm working on deadline this week so I had my good friend step in for me today. See you next week! ~Alisha

My name is Sha-Sha Snow. Thanks, Alisha for giving me this opportunity to blog at Wicked Thorn and Roses today. See, I’m an avid reader too and I love to interview my favorite characters. I’m in London now, sipping latte on a sidewalk cafĂ©, interviewing Special Detective for The Metropolitan Police, Vex Savaker, featured in Alisha Paige’s Nocturnally Vexed.

Sha-sha: Good morning, Mr. Savaker. You have a rather interesting ancestry.

Vex: Good morning, Sha-Sha. Call me Vex. I’m King of the Orgulocks, originating from Xurath.

Sha-Sha: Orgulocks? Xurath?

Vex: *deep chuckle* Aye. Xurath is a black planet, void of light, in another dimension. All blood suckers and shifter-rapts were created there by two lesser gods, Folog and Garmut. My clan, the Orgulocks are hybrids, half blood sucker/half shifter-rapt.

Sha-Sha: But haven’t the blood suckers and shifter-rapts been at war forever?

Vex: They have, my lady, but my father, Cole was captivated by an orphaned shifty, my mother, Zephyria. She’d been banished because of her uncommon beauty.

Sha-sha: So, the pairing resulted in the Orgulocks as we know them today?

Vex: It did indeed. My father was a very powerful blood sucker, the leader of his clan. They’re union changed everything on dark Xurath.

Sha-sha: Let me get this straight. You’re a vampire AND a shape-shifter?

Vex: Absobloodylutely! Except the correct term is blood sucker and shifter-rapt. Vamps and shapeshifters are only found in fiction.

Sha-sha: And you’re not fictional?

Vex: You’re here talking to me, aren’t you? Do I look real enough?

Sha-sha: Hmmm…can I touch?

Vex: *Laughs out loud* Go ahead.

Sha-sha: Mmm…nice biceps. You feel pretty solid to me.

Vex: *Sniffs the air* Good, you’re safe.

Sha-Sha: I beg your pardon?

Vex: From Jack.

Sha-Sha: Jack?

Vex: Aye. Jack the Ripper.

Sha-Sha: Whoa! Wait! Jack killed over 100 years ago. Are you saying he’s back?

Vex: He’s back.

Sha-Sha: You’re a man of few words, Vex. Good to know but how can you be sure I’m safe?

Vex: I sniffed ya. You’re clean…er…were clean…actually you’ve been sullied up a bit..no offense, miss, but I can tell you’ve…er….had men.

Sha-Sha: *Laughs nervously* Are you saying you can smell my virginity or lack of virgin snow, rather?

Vex: *Nods and grins* Orgulocks have ultra sensory powers. A most useful tool in dark Xurath. Here too. The law enforcement agencies love the services we offer. That’s why I’m working on the modern day Jack the Ripper case. I think he’s a shifty.

Sha-Sha: That would explain why he eluded the authorities all those years ago. Is it the same guy?

Vex: We know it’s the same guy. We have DNA evidence to prove it. He left a hair in the wax he sealed a letter to the police back in 1888 and we have DNA from his recent killings. They’re one and the bloody same.

Sha-Sha: Wow! But I still don’t understand why I’m safe.

Vex: You’re not a virgin. Jack is after virgins this go around.

Sha-Sha: Virgins? But he killed prostitutes in the 1800’s.

Vex: Aye. I believe he’s doing the exact opposite this time.

Sha-Sha: In order to fool the police?

Vex: Either that or for his sick kicks.

Sha-Sha: Just one more question before you go, Vex. And it’s an icky one.

Vex: Shoot.

Sha-sha: Do you feast on humans in order to survive?

Vex: I’m no blood sucker. I’m no shifter-rapt. I’m an Orgulock. We have evolved into greater creatures, keeping the better qualities of each species, honing our skills in order to survive and thrive, both here and on Xurath. Sometimes I do feast on female humans, though.

Sha-sha: Oh?

Vex: Only if they ask me too.
